The Sustainext project took on 26 March an important step in its multi-actor approach strategy, with the celebration in Mérida, Extremadura (Spain) of the first meeting of key actors at the local level, organised by our partner FUNDECYT-PCTEX, with the support of the project coordinator, Natac, and the responsible for Communication and Dissemination, BIOPLAT.
The face-to-face meeting, attended by a representation of the more than 100 participants in the survey disseminated throughout Extremadura by FUNDECYT-PCTEX, served to present the project in depth, to know the concerns and expectations of this sample of local professionals in the sector, as well as to identify possible synergies with local stakeholders.
Among the priorities and expectations that emerged during the open dialogue between the attendees and the members of the project present, the interest in waste valorisation and in offering new opportunities in the rural environment stand out. Regulatory and logistical barriers were highlighted among the concerns detected.
Finally, among the opportunities or measures to be adopted, one of the most frequently mentioned was that of achieving greater involvement of primary producers, as well as creating direct transfer networks between producers and potential valorisers.
This meeting, the first of many that will come, has been an excellent starting point to include the opinion and know-how of local stakeholders in the SustaiNext project.
