On 7 July, World Bioproduct Day celebrates the role of bio-based products in building a more sustainable, circular and resource-efficient economy. As part of this transition, SustaiNext is developing innovative bio-based solutions that demonstrate how agricultural biomass can be transformed into high-value products for the food sector.
One example is an artichoke pesto developed within the project using rosemary extract as a natural alternative to chemical preservatives. The botanical extract helps reduce oxidation and browning while improving the product’s sensory profile, demonstrating the potential of plant-based ingredients to enhance food quality while reducing the use of synthetic additives.
This application illustrates how SustaiNext is unlocking the potential of agricultural biomass and botanical resources to develop high-value, sustainable products for the food sector. By combining scientific research with industrial innovation, the project is contributing to healthier and more sustainable food formulations while promoting the efficient use of renewable biological resources.
