Since the project was launched in June 2023, SustaiNext has attracted press attention on several occasions.
Moreover, it has done so by giving responses to the different stakeholders and target audiences to which it is addressed, having appeared in both general and economic newspapers of national circulation, as well as in the local press in Extremadura (the region in western Spain where the flagship plant is located) and specialised press. Here are some examples:
The newspaper elEconomista, one of the main publications of the Spanish economic press, dedicated an article in October to the flagship plant of the SustaiNext project and to our partner Natac.
Natac’s CEO, Antonio Delgado-Romero, highlighted in the article that “it is the first time” that the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) awards a project entirely in Spain and that the main objective of SustaiNext is “to design an environmentally and financially sustainable industrial bet within a model of circular economy and exploitation of the rural environment implemented in rural areas”.
A unique opportunity to give national visibility to the project and to the company that leads it, whose excellent track record and firm commitment to innovation were highlighted.

Moreover, José Carlos Quintela, Natac’s Chief Scientific Officer, gave an interview to the platform Kómoda News in which he reflected on the future of the botanical extracts sector and the impact that the Sustainext project can have to consolidate a new, more sustainable and zero waste production model.
‘The valorisation of agri-food biomass represents an important challenge for Europe and, in particular, for the Spanish region of Extremadura (…) Technological innovation and a commitment to sustainability can completely transform the plant-based ingredients sector,’ said Quintela.
Finally, the announcement that the project was starting to implement its agro-power strategy was met with great media interest at the local level.
The local press in Extremadura reported on the planting of rosemary in the photovoltaic installations of our partner Endesa, as it was the first time in Spain that a solar plant had obtained permission to plant aromatic plants between the panels.
This was yet another occasion on which the SustaiNext project aroused the interest of the press for its added value and the innovation it applies to the primary sector and the rural environment.
