The SustaiNext project was presented at the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) session Agricultural biomass and waste side streams for bio-based chemicals and ingredients production, held in the framework of the EUBCE – European Biomass Conference & Exhibition 2026.
José María Pinilla (Natac), coordinator of the project, presented the progress achieved by the SustaiNext flagship since 2023, showcasing a multiproduct biorefinery model in Extremadura producing healthy plant-based extracts and functional ingredients from medicinal and aromatic crops grown on former tobacco fields and agricultural side streams.
The presentation highlighted SustaiNext’s innovative approach to unlocking the value of agrifood biomass and advancing circular, scalable solutions for the European biocircular economy.
